Stannington Explorers operates, like all Explorer Units, at a District level. This means that any Explorer can attend any Explorer Unit within our District (Hallam). In reality, most Explorers choose a Unit and stay there.
How is this different to Beavers, Cubs and Scouts? They operate on a Group basis with a GSL overseeing the running of all 3 sections.
All Hallam Explorers are overseen by Hillary Clayton who is our DESC, based at District HQ.
Once a Scout approaches 13 ½ years old they can begin planning their ‘Moving on Award’ to the Explorer Unit of their choice. Most Scouts spend half a term attending both Scouts and Explorers, after which they say farewell to their Troop and become invested at Explorers. We also take direct entrants into Explorers who may never have been in Scouting before.
All Explorer Units are open to any and all young people aged between 14 and 18 years old.
